New Year

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

T.S. Eliot

"So there we have it, another three hundred and sixty five days", said the waitress to herself. Her voice washed over a crowded room, filled with cheers and clinks of glass. She never participated in the countdown, she didn't see the neccesity of it when the automatic erruption of fireworks and loud exclaimations of "Happy New Year!" was proof enough that the clock had in fact struck tweleve, and that it was in fact now the first of January. To many people this may seem a pessamistic perspective on what is deemed, to some, as the most important and life changing day of the year, but after many years of working New Years parties, one's perspective tends to adapt. Every year she sees people making promises for the New Year only to find that within the following seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks or months, these promises have been broken.

So, you see, for some New Years Day is simply just like every other day. But for many others the New Year is a chance to "revamp" oneself. To commit to that diet and workout plan, to make promises to be a better person and to spend more time with family.

However, that being said, if New Years day is a day that hundreds of people can make plans to start a healthier lifestyle, and New Years day is just like any other day, then surely, there is no excuse to not treat every day as one treats New Years day.

So today I propose treat every day of the year with as if it was New Years Day, as every day, in it's simple sense is the same. Give the 4th of February and the 27th of March the same amount of potential and ability to change as you give the 1st of January. Every day is a new beginning and another opportunity to make good change.

Please, by all means, make New Years Resolutions, but don't become dissolusioned if they don't go to plan, just pick another day to make change. They all hold the same life changing potential.

Here's to 2016, a leap year, the Chinese year of the monkey, the year of another Olympic Games, new adventures into space and most importantly, the year for you! Where every day is as powerful as the next!
